East Metro Project Homeless Connect a Success!

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless board and staff members volunteered at the forth annual Project Homeless Connect in St. Paul. Monday June 29th, 2009 hundreds of volunteers helped over one thousand homeless men, women, and children to get the help they need.

Project Homeless Connect brought together county services, housing, faith communities, health care providers, legal and advocacy services under one roof at the St. Paul River Center to offer an array of resources to people who are experiencing homelessness in Dakota, Washington, and Ramsey Counties. With over 2,200 individuals experiencing homelessness in the East Metro Region on any given night, this event is a powerful tool to get individuals and families connected to services directly by coming together in one building that is easily accessible to all.

Our volunteers worked one on one with homeless individuals and families in order to connect them with the resources they need. They also assisted in the child care area, where parents could drop off their children while they accessed resources they needed. One board member commented after the event, “Everyone should attend this event, I learned so much.”

The next Project Homeless Connect in the Twin Cities Metro Area is in Hennepin County on December 7th, 2009. Please check out their website for more information.
