Food and Shelter Grants | Education Grants

2008 Food and Shelter Grants as of August 2008:

Ruth's House of Hope - Fairbault

$5,000 for transportation and daycare vouchers for families in their new permanent supportive housing program.

 

Casa Guadalupana - St. Paul

$8,400 to cover partial costs of window replacement and increase energy efficiency of the heating system in a building to be used as an emergency shelter for women and children in St. Paul.

 

Our Saviour’s Outreach Ministries/Our Saviour’s Housing - Minneapolis

$7,213 for the installation of a new fence along their property as part of a larger grant project funded by the City of Minneapolis.

 

Family Housing Fund/Project Homeless Connect - Minneapolis/Hennepin County

$10,000 for vouchers for attendees to receive dentures.

 

Second Harvest Heartland - Maplewood

$4,170 for the purchase of three replacement dock shelters.

 

Family Pathways - Cambridge

$7,321 for food storage equipment for a new food shelf in Hinckley, MN.

 

The Link, Inc. - Minneapolis

$2,400 to purchase new mattresses to furnish apartments for homeless and disabled youth and young adults.

 

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota - Minneapolis

$10,000 for roof replacement on a family transitional housing building.

 

Ascension Place, Inc./St. Anne’s Place - Minneapolis

$10,000 for replacement of flooring, carpeting and tile.

 

People Serving People, Inc. - Minneapolis

$9,500 to assist in furnishing new infant and toddler rooms for the recent collaboration between People Serving People and the Institute for Child Development at the University of Minnesota.

 

Hunger Solutions Minnesota - St. Paul

$200,000 to support summer food needs at food shelves ($60,000), emergency food grants to food shelves facing a crisis ($20,000), grants to emergency meal programs to support food needs ($15,000), grants to support the purchase of culturally appropriate and special needs foods ($25,000), and purchase of fresh produce and protein items for food banks to distribute to agencies ($80,000).

 

Walker Area Food Shelf - Walker

$2,245 for the purchase of new equipment for their food shelf.

 

Northwoods Coalition for Battered Women - Bemidji

$10,000 for necessary roof repairs and to replace flooring.

 

Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis - Minneapolis

$10,000 to purchase storage lockers for clients of the Dorothy Day Center.

 

Evergreen House - Bemidji

$10,000 to purchase a used vehicle for transportation that serve homeless youth.

 

Ascension Place, Inc. - Minneapolis

$4,848 to replace flooring in the dining room.

 

Pelican Rapids Food Shelf - Pelican Rapids

$10,000 for electrical (overhead lighting), mechanical (furnace replacement), carpentry (new sheet rock), and accessibility (ramp) improvements to the building that was purchased for a permanent facility for the food shelf.

 

New Foundations, Inc. - St. Paul

$9,635 for industrial tables, chairs, benches, and picnic tables for the community room and adjacent patio.

 

Family Housing Fund/Project Homeless Connect - St. Paul/Ramsey County

$6,200 for photo ID service, dentures, and bus cards.

 

The Salvation Army - Albert Lea

$9,842 to purchase equipment (air cooker, freezer, pots, buffet table, etc.) needed to implement a hot meals program.

 

Sister’s Camelot - Minneapolis

$9,685 to purchase a new oven range, refrigerator, exhaust hood & fan in the new mobile organic kitchen. 

 

Cabrini Partnership - Minneapolis

$9,278 for new heavy duty vinyl flooring in the dining room and to purchase a dish sanitizer.

 

Dakota Woodlands - Eagan

$9,541 for building repairs, equipment repairs, and purchase of garbage disposal, multi-beam detector for elevator, furniture and carpet.

 

Emergency Foodshelf Network - New Hope

$8,000 for building a food safety approved packing room.

 

Wayside House, Inc. - St. Louis Park

$5,000 for kitchen equipment, refrigerator, mixer, and mobile dish dispenser

 

Bi-County Community Action Programs, Inc. - Bemidji

$10,000 for roof replacement for their transitional housing units.

 

Union Gospel Mission, Inc. - Duluth

$10,00 for update and replacement of kitchen equipment

 

Pillsbury United Communities - Minneapolis

$9,278 for refrigerator, freezer, pallet, jack and shelving.

 

Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless - St. Paul

$6,800 for scholarships to support attendance by individuals experiencing homelessness at the 2008 MCH conference.

 

Clear Waters Life Center - Clearwater

$10,000 for purchase and installation of a cooling system for their transitional housing program.

 

Partners for Affordable Housing - Mankato

$6,591 for security cameras and access control system.

 

Safe Haven Shelter for Youth - Shakopee

$1,524 for new appliances for the men’s and women’s shelter.

 

People Incorporated - St. Paul

$10,000 for survival gear (two person tents, blankets, sleeping bags, socks, boots, and other basic gear) to be distributed to the homeless.

 

The Family Place - St. Paul

$10,000 For a security system with external cameras and access system.
