Education Grant Recipients
Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless designates 15 percent of our grant funding each year to support the education-related needs of homeless children and youth. These grants are awarded to agencies working with homeless and highly mobile youth through an annual grant application process and can be used at any time during the school year.
Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless awarded $135,000 in education grants for the 2011-2012 school year to 36 agencies across the state of Minnesota:
Ain Dah Yung Center / Beverley Benjamin Youth Lodge, St. Paul, $4,200 for school supplies, backpacks, school photos, school activities and/or lab fees, school uniforms, gym uniforms and/or athletic shoes, instrument rental and/or music lessons, driver’s education fees, birth certificates, rental caps and gowns for high school graduation, summer school fees and activities, educational software, clothing, tutoring materials, GED fees and college entrance exam fees
Amherst H. Wilder Foundation / Jackson Street Village, St. Paul, $3,500 for school supplies, backpacks, gym uniforms and shoes, clothing, children’s education software and tutoring supplies
Amherst H. Wilder Foundation / Project Quest, St. Paul, $4,500 for school supplies, backpacks, school photos, school activities and/or lab fees, school uniforms, gym uniforms and/or athletic shoes, driver’s education classes, rental caps and gowns, summer school fees and activities, clothing, tutoring materials, GED fees, college entrance exam fees and community-based enrichment activities
