Open Your Heart Partners with Hunger Solutions Minnesota
The number of Minnesotans who depend on food shelves has never been greater. More Minnesotans have been strained to the breaking point by the economic crisis. So far in 2008, a record number of families are visiting Minnesota food shelves. In the first six months, there has been an 11% statewide increase in visits. Growing numbers of families are experiencing hunger because of job layoffs, home foreclosures and medical bills.
Open Your Heart has been partnering with hunger agencies, like Hunger Solutions MN, for more than 20 years. In 2008 Open Your Heart allocated $200,000 to supplement the increased need to Hunger Solutions Minnesota. These funds will be distributed to those food shelves and food banks across the states that are most in need.
