Volunteers are our organization! They donate their time, talents and treasures to help us carry out our mission of giving where the need is greatest.
Our volunteers serve on the Board of Directors, play an active role in committees and special projects, provide technical and clerical support, raise awareness of Open Your Heart’s work, and much more. In short, our volunteers are ready, willing and eager to dig in and get the job done!
Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless is able to keep its administrative costs low. As a group, our volunteers typically donate more than 2,000 hours each year. Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless volunteers are very much appreciated!

When Emily Marose signed up to volunteer with Open Your Heart at the State Fair in 2000, she probably had no idea that she would still be involved with the organization more than a decade later. We’re glad she has stuck around: Emily has made tremendous contributions to Open Your Heart by sharing her skills in public relations.
Emily has been involved with just about every aspect of Open Your Heart’s communications efforts. She co-chaired the communications committee from 2002-2004, wrote press releases and newsletter content, worked on organizational branding and even designed an annual report. She also worked part-time as a grant writer for Open Your Heart in 2003. Emily moved to Michigan for a few years, but now that she’s back in Minnesota, we are glad to have her back volunteering at Open Your Heart.
Today, Emily writes many of the articles you read in this newsletter and continues to serve on the communications committee. She said her commitment to volunteering with Open Your Heart stems from her Christian faith and her desire to make an impact on hunger and homelessness. She particularly appreciates Open Your Heart’s unique focus on these two causes and our ability to respond quickly to funding requests. Emily said, “If something changed in my life, and I became affected by these issues, it is good to know that organizations like Open Your Heart exist to fund food and shelter programs.”
We thank Emily for her many years of service!
